Born and raised in Bremerton, Karmen has always known she was meant to be a teacher. With a heart for education and a lifelong passion for working with children, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Special and Elementary Education through an online program shortly after high school.
Karmen discovered her love for early childhood education while working with preschoolers with special needs in the local school district. While she valued that experience, she dreamed of a setting where learning could unfold more naturally—outside the walls of a classroom. She found that opportunity at Barnacles & Bees, where she now gets to support young learners through play, exploration, and connection with the natural world.
Karmen has also recently joined the Admin Team as our Lorax (aka Communication Coordinator), so you’re likely to hear from her! Whether she’s connecting with families, supporting staff, or crafting messages that reflect our values, she brings warmth, clarity, and care to every interaction.
When she’s not teaching or coordinating behind the scenes, Karmen enjoys reading, knitting, sipping lukewarm coffee (not on purpose!), and spending time with friends, family, and the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest.
