Celesta Smith
Wild Wonder Guide (aka Executive Director)
Admin Team

Guiding the vision, growth, and heartbeat of Barnacles & Bees through nature-rooted leadership and community connection.

Celesta brings a heartfelt love for nature-based learning to her work, guided by the belief that every child and family deserves the chance to experience the wonder and healing power of the natural world. Over the past seven years, she’s supported elementary education in many forms—volunteering in classrooms, teaching mindfulness, substitute teaching, and nurturing creative outdoor learning programs.

As a Certified K–12 Mindfulness Educator, Celesta has shared simple mindfulness practices with students and teachers in the Tacoma School District, helping to foster calm, focus, and emotional resilience in everyday moments. Her involvement at her children’s school sparked her leadership in supporting an outdoor learning program that brought classrooms into the beautiful wild spaces of Point Defiance Park—an experience that deepened her belief in hands-on, nature-immersed education.

Celesta also brings a wide range of behind-the-scenes skills to Barnacles & Bees, including fundraising, marketing, communications, event planning, and bookkeeping for both non-profits and small businesses. She’s passionate about using those tools to help our programs grow and thrive.

Celesta lives in Tacoma with her husband Derek and their two sons, Rowan and Wyatt. As a family, they love exploring the Salish Sea—whether hiking, swimming, or scuba diving—and they’re always up for a good beach day. Raised on the Oregon Coast, Celesta still feels most at home with her feet in the sand and the ocean breeze in her hair.

She’s delighted to be part of the Barnacles & Bees community, helping to create spaces where children and families can connect, play, and grow together in nature.

“They’re not just playing in nature, they are: Learning, creating, sensing, believing, relaxing, exploring, observing, wondering, connecting, discovering, appreciating, understanding, experimenting…”
Penny Whitehouse, founder of Mother Natured
