How did you find your way to outdoor education?
My own children attended outdoor education because I believe in the benefits of free play outdoors and learning to respect nature from an early age. After seven years of being an outdoor education parent I wanted to help other children have such a wonderful experience as well!
What does “learning through play” mean to you?
Children can learn so many different concepts through play, including physics, hydrodynamics, botany and so many more! A social emotional example is that children use their imagination to create a game or activity then create rules for it, they’ll use their surroundings and negotiate with classmates about the rules and how the game will work. This is an excellent opportunity for children to disagree and learn to express their ideas and feelings and find a compromise. Then work together to make their game a success!
What’s your favorite outdoor activity (rain or shine)?
My favorite activity outdoors is anything with my children! When I’m not with them, I love hiking or jogging on trails deep into the woods or up to a peak.
How do you hope children feel after a day in your care?
I hope children feel confident and proud of themselves after a day in my care
